Looking in to WOCS Empty
PostSubject: Looking in to WOCS   Looking in to WOCS Icon_minitimeSun Jul 27, 2008 8:45 pm

I am currently an E-3 in the Marine Corps, with just under a year of time in. I am scheduled to go to Iraq soon, so I won't be applying probably until afterwards. I think that will give me a bit more of an edge, since I don't have a lot of experience in the military yet.

Anyways, I just wanted to ask what anybody thought my chances were of being accepted for 153A. I am 18 years old, and currently my only off-duty education is two college courses completed. My MOS is 0651, Data Network Specialist.

Honestly, I don't even know where to start. I guess the best thing to do would be to get in contact with a recruiter, but I wanted to ask on here if anybody had anything to say.

Thanks.

you're right the first thing you need to do is contact a recruiter and start getting your packet together. If you look through out this forum you find websites and all sorts of information concerning application towards the WOC program.

You can definitely star your package while you're deployed. I know a few guys who started a package while the been deployed and even submitted it and have been accepted, while they've been deployed.

you can definitely start at the warrant officer recruiting website. You can google it.

There you'll find all the information you need concerning a new application packet. I recommend get to know some aviators, while you're deployed start working on your resume start studying for the Afast.

It might sound like a lot, it it might even be a lot, however it is attainable. You can only limit yourself when it comes to applying for this program to do as I did seek out all the information you can possibly find and go for it.

I was prior service Air Force reserve, and my job was loading airplanes. It's all about making your packet more competitive than the next person.

I hope you start the process and get selected. Good luck and God bless.

Eli

Thank you very much. I have emailed a recruiter and am waiting for a response. The amount of information on the WO recruiting web site is almost overwhelming, but it is an awesome resource.

Your going to need to find an army base there that does Flight Physical. They need to have a flight surgeon. I did mine at an air force base, they had never seen the paper work before and got some of the tests wrong, however i eventually had to go to an army base and the doc there used the info from the 1st test and completed the stuff that they missed. It was a pain. You could also ask the warrant officer recruiting team where you would go since your in the marines right now.

Are you state side? If so, you could find the closest army base and find out of they do flight physicals....if your in europe, japan, etc...odds are that they might have one.

So, do you think that would be my first step in the application process? Based on what I read, it was one of the first things listed.

Wait to do the physical until your done with the simple stuff. Ive been through and seen the situation too many times where you start with physical and then in the process of getting all the other stuff done...the physical expires. Start with the simple stuff, your resume, letters of recommendation, AFAST!!!!, and 62E. If your going to need waivers DO THEM FIRST. My waivers took 2 years to get back (no joke, but I am in the guard so...)
If your doing your physical with the squids or jar-heads (sorry if I offend anyone) then you can call Fort Rucker and they will spell out EVERYTHING you'll need to send to them through AEROMED. If you run into snags with anything in your packet drop a line on here, Ill be happy to help with what I can until I leave for WOCS in Dec. GOOD LUCK!

PS. If you can get through a FAA ground school course, or even some flight training (fixed wing is ok) it will definitely help. If you can take some college courses they will help. I don't know if you Marine guys have something like the Army Correspondence Course program but if you do take as many of those as you can (aviation related mind you). Your young, have little to no college experience so anything like what I'm talking about above will help! The WO boards are extremely competitive, esp on the active side of the house. Its been my experience thus far that the WO board wants to see people who are willing to run through a brick wall to get the opportunity to become a WO and pilot. Be willing to work..and keep working until you get through the entire process and you will achieve your goal an Army aviator.

The last sentence should have read "...achieve your goal of becoming an Army Aviator."
